Kothamalli chutney

Kothamalli chutney is a very tasty and easy side dish for idly and dosa.. No roasting required. This can be prepared in just 5 minutes, can be an easy one to fix up for breakfast , in the morning hurry burry time.

I prepare this whenever I have fresh coriander in stock. I try to use it maximum when they are fresh. Here goes my simple and quick recipe

Recipe Cuisine: South Indian | Recipe Category: Sidedish

  • Fresh coconut – 1 cup
  • Fresh coriander leaves – 2 handfuls
  • Ginger – 1/2 inch
  • Garlic – 2 pods
  • Green chilli – 2
  • salt – to taste
  • To temper:

    • Sesame oil – 1 tbsp
    • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
    • Chana dal – 1 tsp
    • Red chilly – 2

    Method:

    1. In a mixer jar, add fried gram dal, coconut, coriander leaves, ginger, garlic, green chillies and salt.
    2. Grind with little water to a semi-fine consistency.
    3. In a pan, heat oil, when the oil is hot add mustard seeds, chana dal and red chillies. Let them splutter.
    4. Add this tempering to the kothamalli chutney.
    5. Serve with soft idlies or crispy dosas.kothamalli coriander chutney

      Notes:

      • You can add or reduce the green chillies as per your preference.
      • You may also replace green chillies with red chillies while grinding the chutney.
      • Tempering is optional, you may use the chutney just after grinding it.
      • Ginger and garlic can be omitted if you dont like the raw smell, but they give a good taste and they are also healthy ingredients 🙂 So i always prefer to add ginger and garlic in my chutneys.
