Chokladbullar | Chocolate balls | Fireless cooking

Image
Chokladbullar is a type of unbaked pastry that is a popular Danish confectionery.  This is very common here in Sweden. This is the very first sweet that we had in Sweden after coming here. So a small sweet remembrance for me 😉 The main ingredient is oats, mixed with some cocoa powder , sugar, butter and vanilla sugar (for vanilla flavour) with some water and made into balls and rolled over dried coconut flakes or pearl sugar crystals.  Chokladbullar can be prepared by kids too as it does not require fire or heat for making it.  It can be prepared in a jiffy and enjoyed for a week. I meant to say, that it keeps well for atleast a week in room temperature.   Lets get into the making of Chokladbullar : Ingredients: Butter or  ghee  – 100 grams Sugar – 100 grams Vanilla sugar – 1 tbsp Cocoa powder – 3 tbsp Oats – 300 grams Water – 3 tbsp To garnish: Pearl sugar or dessicated coconut or sprinkes Method: 1.Mix all the ingredients and bring it toge...

Cinnamon buns | Cinnamon rolls | Kanelbullar

Image
Cinnamon buns are rolled buns with cinnamon flavour in each bite 🙂 I was hesitant about cinnamon flavour in baked buns initially, But after tasting it in IKEA I started to like them . Hence gave it a try at home and it was great. I made it simply by using my bread dough as I tried  here , with cinnamon powder, butter and sugar mixed well and applied in the rolls. Ingredients for the filling, Melted butter – 1/2 cup Sugar – 3/4 cup Cinnamon powder – 2 tbsp Procedure is just simple , I prepared the bread dough and rolled it out into a large rectangle. Applied the butter liberally on the rectangle. Then mixed sugar with cinnamon powder and sprinked all over the buttered dough. I rolled the rectangle and then cut into small pieces but the shape wasnt so good. Then I cut lines on the rectangle as below, and then rolled the strips, now the shapes came out well. You can see the difference in the buns pic below. Hahaha,,, I did not click step wise pics that day 🙂 Then placed them on the ...

Kadalai Urundai | Peanut chikki | Peanut Jaggery balls

Image
Kadalai Urundai or Peanut chikki is a healthy snack and can be made quickly too. Peanuts are rich in protein and healthy fats and jaggery is rich in iron – so this is a very good snack for kids, to be packed to school or can be enjoyed as an evening snack. I had this saved in the draft for so long, and finally got to post it today. When we were in Chennai we used to buy this kadalai urundai often. We always made sure to stock them up before they got over, but after coming to Sweden we started to miss this. After many days, I realized that I can make it at home too. Ragi Choco cookies

Image
Ragi Choco cookies are very healthy and tasty cookies. I wanted to make ragi cookies since long, but was hesitant over the amount of ghee that goes into it..  Finally today, I thought of tweaking my ingredients a little and arrived at this recipe, so as to use little lesser amount of ghee. My usual ragi biscuits will consume a lot of ghee, almost equal to half the quantity of the ragi flour. But they taste awesome too 🙂 Ragi flour should be roasted in low heat for a while to get rid of the muddy smell , but I was a little lazy and did not want to roast it. Who likes to stand and dry roast for a long time 🙁 Definitely not me.. Thus arrived this idea of adding cocoa powder to overcome the muddy smell. Yaay! IT worked .. I also added some wheat flour to get a lighter colour, and oats for some texture. Ghee and some eggs as the wet ingredients and organic sugar to satisfy my consciousness to not give unhealthy food. You can also use any other healthy alternative for sugar like coconu...

Strawberry Jam

Image
Last weekend we had gone for strawberry picking. This is the first time I have seen a strawberry farm and was surprised to see acres of land with strawberries.. There were a lot of people picking the berries and enjoying the sweet and ripe berries in the farm. It was real fun. The ripe berries were really sweet unlike the store-bought ones which taste sour. So we plucked almost 3 to 4 kgs of strawberries and when we reached home, I and my hubby were looking at each other as to how we will finish eating so much, then struck the idea to make strawberry jam. So I distributed some of the strawberries to my neighbours and then started with jam making. Any fruit jam requires only 3 basic ingredients – the fruit, sweetener and a preservative. I have used honey as sweetener and lemon as a natural preservative. I have frozen lemon and I grated its peel and the pulp and used it. There are a lot more nutrients in the peel that the lemon juice. So I would suggest you to store some lemons and...
